National Adult Day Services Week is Celebrated at SAAC

Montco SAAC’s Adult Day Service Program is celebrating from September 15 through the 21st to raise awareness of the availability and accessibility of adult day programs nationwide. National Adult Day Services week provides an opportunity to celebrate the fun, socialization, and care that seniors who can no longer stay home alone receive at SAAC’s Day Service.

Seniors with dementia or who have had strokes or other medical conditions, gather daily in the cheerful Day Service lounge. The activities featured are adapted to the abilities of the attendees. Games such as pokeno, trivia and memory games are played. Visits from a music therapist and the SPCA add variety to the daily schedule. A nutritious lunch is served in a café atmosphere, and most important, members spend quality time with people their own age.

Day Service allows families to take a break from non-stop caregiving. It allows them to shop, relax or socialize themselves without worrying about their loved one. Others have family members who work and Day Service provides 7 am to 6 pm coverage to accommodate a work day.
