Lower Providence Library Offers Program To Celebrate John James Audubon

The Lower Providence Community Library will offer a program to teach about the ornithologist and illustrator's first American home.

The Lower Providence Community Library will help to keep alive the memory of ornithologist and painter John James Audubon with their Oct. 16, 6:30 p.m. presentation “The Mill Grove Story,” according to a media release form the library.

Audubon, who lived in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, found his first American home at Mill Grove, which is the only real Audubon home that is still here.

The estate was first owned by Audubon’s father, Jean, a sea captain from France, for 17 years. Captain Audubon instructed his son to watch over the estate in 1803, which included an active lead mine.
