The Pottstown Pet Fair returns in an even bigger form in its third year at Pottstown’s Memorial Park, with dog agility demonstrations, a low-cost rabies vaccination clinic, animal adoptions, a pig rescue, veterinarians, over 70 vendors, and more on Sept. 21, according to fair organizer Bill Sharon, a Pottstown borough employee.

Guests and their pets are welcome at Pottstown’s pet fair, a free event on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., where they can make an hour or a day of demonstrations ranging from dog law enforcement to veterinary care, of strolling by over 70 vendors selling everything from animal figures to pet scarves, of attending a Blessing of the Animals by Sister Millicent, a Boyertown nun, and cheering at the Rotary Club’s duck race, amongst other activities.

The Montgomery County Health Department will be at the fair as part of its Rabies Control Program from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. to vaccinate cats, dogs, and ferrets at $10 per shot. Pets brought for a vaccination should be on a leash or in an approved carrier.

The Philadelphia Zoo will bring five of their animals during the earlier part of the fair. Cats, dogs, and pigs will be up for adoption at the fair. A pet hospital will talk about their blood drive for dogs.

“It’s a fun day, it’s a free day,” said Sharon. “If we can get some pets adopted…”

According to Sharon, three years ago he and two of his borough co-workers, both animal-lovers, decided that the borough needed a pet fair. Sharon himself volunteers with a Lower Pottsgrove cat rescue, Cat Naps, which serves Pottstown, as well.

The fair has grown from about 30 vendors to over 70 vendors that come from as far as New York and Maryland. There is also a food court for guests.

Sharon encourages guests to watch the Rotary Club duck race. Guests can also visit The Carousel at Pottstown that is across the street and the nearby Pottsgrove Manor, which is hosting a chocolate demonstration that day.
