Bites Nearby: Olympia Pizzeria

Looking to get a great meal close to home? We've got you covered

Everyone's got their favorite lunch or dinner spot in town, and while I have quite a few "go-to" joints, even I find a new gem from time to time. So, in the spirit of the great explorers and foodies everywhere, I'm instituting "Bites Nearby," a new feature running every Thursday.

Each week, Norristown Patch will find a great place to eat either in town or nearby that is worth checking out. Here's this week's choice:

Norristown has its fair share of pizza joints, and while I was sure I'd had a slice or two at each of them at some point, I was recently turned on to one I had missed.

"You haven't tried Olympia?" my mother asked.

She assured me that folks at her work, and even a few family members, swear by the place, so I took it upon myself to see what all the hubbub was about. I wasn't disappointed.

A bit more than just a standard pizza parlor, Olympia has an epic menu worthy of the Greek gods. For such a small shop tucked away on Germantown Pike, I wasn't sure how the chefs had room to actually make everything on the menu. Italian, Greek, Mediterranean, American, Mexican – there was a little of everything.

I stood at the counter, a bit overwhelmed by my options, when someone took pity on me and made a recommendation. "Try the chicken," my new friend said.

"Which one?" I replied.

"Doesn't matter. Chicken steak is great; chicken quesadilla is awesome," came the reply.

I went for the quesadilla and was not disappointed. See for yourself in the photo gallery.

, 209 W Germantown Pike; 610-279-5881. Open Monday to Friday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m .; Saturday, 11 a.m. to midnight; and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Great place! I've been eating Cheese steaks and Hoagies from there for nineteen years, even since I moved into the area. I had to find a replacement for Dalessandro's in Roxborough and I found it. Everybody talks about Pudgie's but Pudgies pile toppings ('shroom's, onions, peppers) on top of the steaks. Olympia cooks to order mixing the ingredients right on the grill. Good wishes to Steve, Mike and John from a long time customer.

I agree with the other comments about Olympia. Chicken cheesesteaks are made with real chicken breasts, not some mystery meat. Their gyro's are another favorite. Would also suggest the BBQ chicken pizza! Extremely clean too!
