King of Prussia Store Ground Zero for Twinkies Lovers

The Wonder Hostess Bakery Thriftshop saw a run on the spongy snack cake after Hostess announced it was closing down its operation.

Hostess, the seminal snack cake company that pioneered the spongie, creme-filled wonders that are Twinkies, is officially out of business after a judge approved the company selling off its assets last week.

While the company searches for buyers, consumers on the lower end of the food chain are in a mad scramble to get their hands on the last of the company's products before they disappear from shelves. Boxes of 10 can even be found for sale on eBay for as much as $35 a pop.

Jim Neufwander, of Berwyn, told The Times Herald last week that he and friends flocked to local stores grocery stores on hearing the news in an attempt to stock up on the iconic snack cakes.

"It's disappointing. I thought they would have a few left. I love Twinkies but I guess I’m not alone," Neufwander told the Herald. "It's horrible that the company is going out of business this way."

Neufwander and other Hostess lovers may get another bite of the apple (or rather, cake) today. Norristown Patch stopped by the shop at 600 South Henderson Road on Monday to get a look at the leftovers and an employee confided that they were expecting a large shipment of new product Monday night. Snack cake fans may want to swing by early today to see if they can get their hands on a piece of confection history.
