Pa. Company Likely Used by Hackers to Hit Target

Financial information of up to 70,000 customers was compromised during the hacking incident.

A Pennsylvania heating and refrigeration business apparently was used by hackers to gain access to millions of Target customers’ credit- and debit-card numbers, an investigation has shown.

Fazio Mechanical Services Inc., a Pittsburgh-area company, did business with Target, and internet-security bloggers now believe it was the third-party vendor through which the hackers gained access to Target’s system, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported.

Target has maintained that hackers bypassed its security through one of its vendors.
