Lower Providence Warriors Take Home Keystone State Championship

The 2013 Lower Providence Warrior U13 “90s” Team completed a successful undefeated season and captured the Keystone State League Championship.

The Warriors won a hard fought championship game against their foes from Bucks County, the Southampton Knights.  The game was played at the Benjamin Johnson Stadium in Philadelphia on Saturday, November 23rd during the Keystone State League Championships weekend.

The game was a see-saw battle that took an overtime shoot-out to decide the victor.  Quarterback Steve DePaul and running backs Tygee Leach, Vernon Tubbs, Jalin Meachem and Cade Szotek had success on the ground behind an offensive line of Sean Sykes, Nick Uba, Justin Ramos, Colm McCafferty, Jack McQuaid, Liam Smith, Christian Bockrath and Kevin Harris.

The Warriors and the Knights entered half tied at 0-0.  The Warriors broke the tie after runs by Leach, Meachem, and Tubbs, and an aerial attack from DePaul, Szotek, and Harris.  The Knights stormed back to tie the game late in the fourth quarter to force the overtime shoot-out.  The Warriors scored first in overtime and gained the extra point on strong runs by Leach and great blocking.  The Knights took possession but were denied by the strong Warrior defense lead by Mehkie Jones and Rasheen Jones, and the rest of the Warriors.  The final score was 13-7.  The Warriors celebrated their victory with the Warrior Cheerleaders and the rest of the large crowd of Warrior supporters.

The Warriors were coached by head coach and offensive coordinator Jason Goodrich, defense coordinator Jason Thompson, and assistants Tyrone Leach and Bob Szostek.

This is the 8th Keystone State Championship in 9 years for the Warrior organization and 6th title in a row.
