After Conspicuous Driving, a Man May Be Charged For DUI, Say Police

A police officer stopped a man for erratic driving in Trooper, which might be followed by a charge for DUI, pending lab tests, according to a Lower Providence police report.

A Lower Providence police officer was on patrol on Sept. 28, just before 3 a.m. in a marked police vehicle in Trooper when he focused on a car on Ridge Pike going west, close to Wayne Road, according to a Lower Providence police report.

The officer reported that the car drove slowly, then went into a left lane without using a signal until after the driver started to turn onto South Park Avenue, say police. The car drove on and then stopped suddenly in a lane, say police. The officer pulled up behind the vehicle and saw that the turn signal was activated after the car had stopped, according to the report.

The officer reported that the car then continued its path south on South Park Avenue until the officer flashed his emergency lights, halting the car at the intersection of Glenwood Avenue and South Park Avenue, say police.

The officer came over to the car, and the man driving identified himself as Theodore Johnson and showed police a New York ID and his car rental agreement, according to the report. The police report indicates that Johnson resides in Philadelphia. Johnson told police that he was lost and said that his license was suspended, say police.

The officer reported that Johnson smelled strongly of alcohol and his words were slurred, according to the report. When asked if he had something to drink Johnson said “No, nothing at all,” per the report.

Other officers arrived, police say. Johnson participated in field sobriety tests, and took a breath test, whose result was .133%, according to the report. The officer who first stopped him reported that he believed that Johnson was impaired to a point where he could not drive, say police.

Police arrested Johnson and, after his blood was drawn in at hospital, he was taken to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility for processing and release, say police.

A charge for DUI for alcohol is pending upon blood lab results, according to the report.
