Driver Arrested for DUI Crashed on top of Collegeville Mailbox

Lower Providence Police report that after the crash, the driver allegedly left the car running, as well as the scene.

On Oct. 25, at 8:23 p.m. Lower Providence Police found a white, 1995 Oldsmobile Cutlass on top of a resident’s mailbox. The car was was still running, but the driver was not at the scene.

The incident occurred in the Collegeville section of Lower Providence.

A witness told police that he was in his driveway when he saw the Cutlass leaving a nearby driveway, and described the driver to police. The witness further stated that the driver left his premises at a high rate of speed, attempted to turn left on Germantown Pike, but never made the turn, striking the mailbox.

Another witness, traveling westbound on Germantown Pike, told police that he saw the vehicle stuck on top of the mailbox, with smoke coming from out of the car. This witness stated that he walked up to the driver in an effort to get him to stop trying to get his car unstuck.

Lower Providence Police report that the driver was last seen walking to a large residence along the 3800 block of Germantown Pike with multiple apartments nearby the incident scene.

Police were led to one of the apartments, where Lower Providence Police found a male matching the description of the runaway driver, as given by the witnesses.

Police found that the male was the owner of the car, and identified as Warren Keith Watson. Police reported that Watson had trouble standing up and later had a blood test result (BAC) of .13-percent.

Watson, who denied operating his vehicle and being in the accident, was arrested for DUI.

Dewane's Garage of Collegeville towed the car from the scene.
