Lower Providence Fire Co. Has Fire Prevention Week Open House Oct. 11

Lower Providence Volunteer Fire Company will open their station for a night of fun and fire safety.

National Fire Prevention Week is celebrated this year from Oct. 6 to 12, and the Lower Providence Volunteer Fire Company has participated by busily educating the public; the week will conclude with their Open House on Friday, with a helmet giveaway, a full display of their equipment, demos, a scavenger hunt, and more, according to Jackie Rittenhouse, their fire prevention committee chairman.

Their volunteer firefighters have spent the week hosting schoolchildren visits to the firehouse, as well as visiting daycares and preschools in Lower Providence, said Rittenhouse.

They taught children to practice the safety measures of Stop, Drop and Roll, as well as Stay Low and Go. Lucky child volunteers got to dress up in firefighter gear, and the children were allowed to tour a fire truck to see what it is like to ride one.

The Open House will run on Friday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the station at 3199 Ridge Pike in Eagleville.

There will be a Stop, Drop and Roll ‘station,’ where little kids in the past have always loved showing their parents what they learned in school. There will be snacks and beverages, a scavenger hunt, and many fun and educations activities and demonstrations.
