Lower Providence Recognizes Police Corporal for 10 years of Service

Cpl. Matthew L Kuhnert was recognized Thursday night.

Cpl. Matthew L Kuhnert of the Lower Providence Police Department was recognized for his 10 years of service in the department at the Board of Supervisors meeting Thursday night.

“In recognition and gratitude for his ten years of dedicated service to Lower Providence township, the Lower Providence Board of Supervisors is pleased to present Cpl. Matthew L. Kuhnert with this token of our appreciation,” said Supervisor Chairman Richarad T. Brown, standing with Kuhnert in front of the crowd, and gifting him with a plaque.

Cpl. Kuhnert, who was first sworn in to the department on June 23, 2003, was assigned to their Canine Unit in 2004, and he and his patrol dog Shadow became certified in Patrol Canine and Narcotics detection and have worked together since then.  They have been involved in several seizures of narcotics, felony arrests, and public relations interactions.

“It’s the best job in the world.  I wouldn’t trade it for the world,” Kuhnert said.

Kuhnert was assigned to the Montgomery County Drug Task Force in 2005 and he was promoted to his current rank of Corporal in 2009.  He received the Police Department’s two highest honors during his tenure: A Commendation for Bravery and a Commendation for Valor.  Aside from appreciative letters from citizens, he has also received the 2008 Montgomery County F.O.P. David Hancock Award for Heroism.

Before joining the department Kuhnert received his BA in Criminal justice with a minor of Psychology At Temple University, graduation cum laude in 2002.  In 2003 he joined and graduated from the Montgomery County Police Academy in 2003, where he was designated as the class Sergeant and was able to achieve a perfect score in firearms qualifications.
