Manhole Covers Stolen from Featherbed Lane

Crews from Lower Providence's Public Works Department discovered the manhole covers missing on Thursday.

Four manhole covers have gone missing from a storm sewer inlet near the intersection of Featherbed Lane and Pinetown Road in Audubon and Lower Providence Police are searching for the culprits.

According to police reports, the covers were discovered to be missing Thursday, Feb. 21 at approximately 2:35 p.m. by Public Works employees working in the area. A crew leader for the department notified Police Chief Francis Carroll.

The Public Works employee could not specify a date the manhole covers were last seen, but noted that the department routinely clears the inlets prior to storms.

The covers at valued at $130 each. Manhole covers are routinely stolen to be resold as scrap metal.
