Montgomery County will continue to be one of only three counties in the state whose sheriff's department is accredited by the Pennsylvania Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission.
phillyBurbs.com reports that Sheriff Eileen Behr was advised of the pending recertification following a "rigorous" two-day assessment last week.
The department became the first sheriff's department in the state to be accredited when it originally achieved that distinction in 2010. The certification was introduced by the Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Association in 2000.
The sheriff is the county's chief law enforcement officer.
