Woman Driving in Bathrobe Stopped on Suspicion of DUI

A woman driving while wearing a bathrobe and no shoes was arrested for suspicion for DUI, say Lower Providence police.

A bathrobe-clad woman, who said she was driving to her husband's after a fight with her boyfriend, was stopped by Lower Providence Police on suspicion of DUI, police say.

A Lower Providence police officer on patrol in Audubon on Sept. 23 around 10 p.m. was driving behind a car whose passenger side tires crossed the white fog line on the road multiple times, according to a Lower Providence police report. The officer also saw the vehicle sometimes drive very slowly, 25-30 mph in a 45 mph speed zone, say police.

When the vehicles were around the area of Pawlings Road and Egypt Road, the officer indicated that he flashed his lights, and both vehicles pulled over.

The officer came out and spoke with the driver, a woman wearing a bathrobe, who smelled of alcohol, according to the report. The officer saw that the inside of the car was full of clothing and suitcases, police say. The officer inquired about that and the woman told him that she had fought with her boyfriend and was going to her husband’s to sleep over, say police.

Another Lower Providence police officer arrived and, when one of the officers asked if the woman had been drinking, she said that she had not, according to the report. One of the officers told the woman that there was the smell of alcohol emanating from her, but the woman still said that she had not been drinking, say police.
