Eagle Scout Candidate Set for Hoy Park Makeover

The Lower Providence Parks and Recreation Board unanimously approved Eagle Scout candidate Michael Fieseher's Eagle Scout project to beautify Hoy Park.

Eagle Scout candidate Michael Fieseher presented his vision of improving Hoy Park during the board meeting.

Fieseher is an incoming senior at Methacton High School and a Boy Scout with Troop 119, which is based out of St. James Episcopal Church in Evansburg.

While has several attributes, including fishing and nature-watching, Fieseher several aesthetic improvements can be made.

Fieseher outlined his plans for Hoy Park improvements in a Power Point presentation. Most of the plans focus on a 50-by-70-square foot area close to the parking lot, and includes:

  • Repairs to the dilapidated stone chimney
  • Weeding and clearing the area
  • Adding picnic tables
  • Install a stand-alone pedestal grill

“It would be a nice aesthetic improvement over the weeds there,” Fieseher said.

According to Fieseher, the project should be completed within 2 or 3 work days, over a month period.

He said he will be helped by friends and fellow troop members, who will also supply various tools and expertise, such as stonework.

Fieseher estimated that the entire project may cost between $450 – $500, and plans on raising funds in order to purchase materials.

He said that certain retail stores, including , offers Boy Scout discounts. He also expects to hold a fundraising event in the near future at Sears in Collegeville, in conjunction with its grand-reopening.

Fieseher added that he spoke with Karl Lukens, Lower Providence Parks and Recreation director, who encouraged him on proceeding with the project. William Wurtz, the board’s chairman, also said he was impressed with Fieseher’s Eagle Scout project proposal.

The board voted unanimously to approve Fieseher’s Hoy Park beautification project.

According to Wurtz, the board can expect several more Eagle Scout candidates making proposals for Eagle Scout projects in the coming year.
