CORRECTION: Public Works Director Dave Shaffer Died Saturday

Few details are available, but a township employee confirmed that Shaffer passed away over the weekend.

UPDATE: [1/29/13; 12:50 p.m.] A release issued by Lower Providence Township contained information correcting an earlier report that Public Works Director David Shaffer died on Sunday, Jan 27. Shaffer actually passed away suddenly on Saturday, Jan. 26.

The township issued the following statement in response to the news:

"Lower Providence Township Board of Supervisors and Staff wish to express our deep sorrow over the sudden passing of Public Works Director David H. Shaffer Jr. on January 26, 2013. Dave served Lower Providence Township and its residents for over 27 years. He inspired us with his untiring dedication and genuine love for his work. His big heart and gentle spirit will be sorely missed."

A late night posting on local blog Lower Providence Out Loud, noted the passing of Lower Providence Public Works Director Dave Shaffer over the weekend.

According to the blog, Shaffer died suddenly on Sunday, Jan. 27. A township employee confirmed the news, but an official release was not available as of this posting.  

"I was sorry to hear of the sudden passing of a longtime fixture in Lower Providence, Public Works director Dave Shaffer on Sunday, January 27," wrote Janice Kearney in the blog post. "He was always kind, patient and gracious, and will be very much missed."
