State Agency Distributing Tablets in Case of Nuclear Emergency in Limerick

Potassium iodine tablets will be available August 8 to those who live or work within 10 miles of the Limerick Nuclear Power Plant.

The Pennsylvania Department of Health is distributing free potassium iodine (KI) tables to those who live, work or attend school within a 10-mile radius of the Limerick Nuclear Power Plant, as well as the other four plants in the state.

On August 8, residents can pick up pills between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the Pottstown Health Center, located at 364 King Street, and between 2 and 7 p.m. at Solanco High School at 585 Solanco Road in Quarryville or the Keystone Fire Company at 240 N. Walnut St. in Boyertown,

KI helps to protect the thyroid against radioactive iodine in the case of a radiological emergency; the pills should only be ingested when directed by state health officials or the governor. For more on KI tablets, click here.
