Lower Providence extends contract for School Resource Officer

The Lower Providence Board of Supervisors on Thursday night approved the extension of a one-year contract with Methacton School District to allow for a School Resource Officer (SRO) position assigned to Arcola Intermediate School to continue, according to The Times Herald.

The contract extension will require Lower Providence township to pay for 25% for the police officer’s salary and benefits, and it will require the school district to pay 74%.

According to the contract the SRO is tasked with cultivating a safe campus, providing drug and alcohol education, and functioning as a resource for law enforcement-related issues.  The officer also works with the Eagleville, Arrowhead, Woodland and Audubon elementary schools.
