LPCCA to Hold Third-Annual Yard Sale

This year, the Lower Providence Concerned Citizens Association will feature several family-friendly attractions, highlighting the community's finest.

The Lower Providence Concerned Citizens Association (LPCCA), will host its third-annual Yard Sale, Aug. 11 at the Lower Providence Firehouse “Fairgrounds,” located at 3199 Ridge Pike in Eagleville.

The Yard Sale will take place from 7 a.m. – 2 p.m., and will feature over a dozen yard-sale vendors.

According to LPCCA Yard Sale coordinator, Angeline Baird, the event has grown in popularity over the years, attracting hundreds of people seeking household treasures.

However, this year the LPCCA, a volunteer civic group, intends on expanding its yard-sale offerings, from children’s clothing to kitchenware, into an opportunity for residents to meet their local first responders.

“I’m very first-responder-oriented,” Baird said.

Baird, whose son is a former Lower Providence EMT, said she hopes the yard sale will help provide the township’s first responders with the respect and acknowledgement they deserve. And also, she hopes the Yard Sale will help keep residents informed of township services, which, she said, is part of the LPCCA mission.

Lower Providence First Responders that are expected to attend the LPCCA Yard Sale:

The Lower Providence Fire Department:

The LPFD will feature a fire truck for children to explore, and have their pictures taken for purchase. Fire fighters will be available to answer questions and hand out free “fire hats.”

Lower Providence Police Department:

LPPD will feature members of the police K-9 unit, Officer Matt Kuhnert and his canine partner Shadow at 10:45 a.m. Officer Reginald Nealy of the LPPD Swat team will also greet event participants at that time.

Lower Providence Ambulance

Paramedic/EMT Lower Providence Ambulance members will be on-hand to offer free blood-pressure screenings.

In addition to the first responders and the yard sale vendors, several other family-friendly attractions will occur throughout the event, including mixed-martial arts demonstrations by Chuck Vaughn, face painting, from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.; and balloon art from 10:30 a.m. – 2 p.m.; raffle prizes;

Other event highlights include an opportunity to meet members of the local American Legion, as well as the chance to participate with CHIP (Child Identification Program), where a child’s picture and video are recorded on a 3-inch mini-CD, to be given to parents for free.

Also new this year, Baird said that local businesses and organizations will attend the Yard Sale. She estimated that 21 such vendors are signed up already, and the LPCCA is currently accepting further applications [See below for more information].

According to Angline Baird’s husband, Ted, who is the LPCCA president, such events are the start of future community outreach initiatives by the organization.

“What I hope to offer people is more help, and keep the people informed,” Ted Baird said.

According to Ted Baird, the LPCCA is a nonprofit, non-partisan, volunteer civic organization, dating back to 1974. Its mission is “to be a voice for the Citizens of the Lower Providence Area,” by ensuring residents are educated in the basic workings of local government, and providing opportunities for residents to express and exchange opinions on important local concerns and ideas.

All vendor proceeds from the event will benefit the LPCCA and its community activities.
