David Manilla was convicted of felony aggravated assault in 1995 and was prohibited from owning a gun when police say a stray shot during a hunting trip killed a Quakertown man.
According to a release from the U.S. Attorney's Office, 51-year-old David Manilla, of Worcester, pleaded guilty on Monday, March 18, to possession of firearms by a convicted felon. The case resulted from the investigation of a fatal hunting accident in Bucks County in 2010 that resulted in the death of another hunter, 53-year-old Barry Groh, of Quakertown. According to Philly.com, Groh's body was discovered on Monday, Nov. 29, 2010 lying in a creek beside a dead deer in Richland Township. His gun was found near his body. According to court records, Manilla was hunting with a rifle on his farm at 155 California Road in Richland Township that day. Authorities say a shot he fired killed Groh. Police say 24-year-old Paul Brown was found shot in his car in an alley in Norristown on Christmas night.
UPDATE: [9:50 p.m.] Authorities have identified the victim in the fatal Christmas night shooting in Norristown as 24-year-old local man Paul Brown. Friends and loved one's mourned his loss publicly via social media following the news of the killing Tuesday night, Dec. 25. According to the Norristown Police Department, police were dispatched to the alley behind 120 Wayne Ave. in Norristown at 4:41 p.m. for a report of a shooting. On the scene, they discovered Brown sitting in the driver's seat of his 1997 Buick Sedan with multiple gunshot wounds. According to a Times Herald article, a $30,000 reward has been offered for information leading to the safe return of 10-month-old Saanvi Venna, who was abducted from the Marquis Apartments in Upper Merion Monday. The Citizen’s Crime Commission of Delaware Valley, Upper Merion Township Police, The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office and the Teluga Association of North America are offering the reward. According to a previous Patch report, Saanvi’s 61-year old grandmother, Satyavathi Venna, was also found murdered in the home when Upper Merion Township Police arrived on Monday. Authorities say the child was abducted and her 61-year-old grandmother was murdered.
Multiple news outlets are confirming that Upper Merion and Pennsylvania State Police are still searching for 10-month-old Saavni Venna after she was abducted from the Marquis Apartments in the 200 block of W. Dekalb Pike in King of Prussia sometime between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. Oct. 22. According to NBC10, police have confirmed that the murder victim found at the scene was Saavni's 61-year-old grandmother, Satyavathi Venna, who was baby-sitting at the time. Police issued an Amber Alert after the father returned home later in the day and realized the child was missing.
