Teach a Child To Read With RSVP

This Montgomery County program seeks volunteers to help youngsters learn.

Are you searching for a way to give back to your community? The Montgomery County RSVP program could use your help. Children as young as ages 4 to 5 learn to read through the Head Start program, called Child Literacy with RSVP, and they can only do so with the assistance of the volunteers at RSVP. There are 18 districts in the county that utilize the aid provided by RSVP volunteers. The Child Literacy is hosted in 30 classrooms throughout the county, including in the communities of Lansdale, Norristown, Green Lane, Pottstown, Conshohocken, Abington, Souderton and North Hills. "With just an hour or two each week you will read to a class, to small groups or one-on-one," said RSVP Volunteer Coordinator Janis Glusman. "You can help children …

Pen Pals Help Students at Cole Manor Become Better Writers

Second graders from at Cole Manor Elementary write to and receive letters from seniors in the RSVP program

Ms. Chiccarine’s 2nd grade students at Cole Manor Elementary are involved in a Pen Pal program. Every month, the students write and receive letters from retired senior citizens in the RSVP program. The students really enjoy reading their letters each month. The Pen Pal program began in September. and has helped the students become much better writers. The pen pals plan to meet one another in June.
