Authorities are advising residents to lock up bikes when not in use and record any serial numbers.
The Lower Providence Police Department posted a notice to Facebook last week warning are residents that they have received several reports of bike and scooter thefts recently. Most of the reports have come from apartment complexes in the Lower Providence area, according to police. The LPPD is advising residents to record serial numbers from all bicycles and scooters and ensure they are safely locked up when not in use. Parents who notice their children riding bicycles or scooters that do not belong to them can bring them to the Lower Providence Police Station at 100 Parklane Drive in Eagleville. Crews from Lower Providence's Public Works Department discovered the manhole covers missing on Thursday.
Four manhole covers have gone missing from a storm sewer inlet near the intersection of Featherbed Lane and Pinetown Road in Audubon and Lower Providence Police are searching for the culprits. According to police reports, the covers were discovered to be missing Thursday, Feb. 21 at approximately 2:35 p.m. by Public Works employees working in the area. A crew leader for the department notified Police Chief Francis Carroll. The Public Works employee could not specify a date the manhole covers were last seen, but noted that the department routinely clears the inlets prior to storms. The covers at valued at $130 each. Lower Providence police confirm they have identified the three women sought in connection with the alleged thefts.
Patch recently reported on the three women being sought in connection with several thefts at a local Giant Food Store in recent weeks and the Lower Providence Police Department has now confirmed that they have identified the women in surveillance footage from the store. Authorities have not yet taken the women into custody and are not currently releasing their identities. According to police reports, officers responded to the Giant Food Store at 2670 Egypt Road on Thursday, Jan. 31 at 8:45 p.m. for a report of a theft. Three women are wanted for alleged thefts from Giant Food Store.
Lower Providence Police have released photos from a surveillance video showing three women authorities say may be involved in several retail thefts from an area Giant Food Store. Details of the thefts have note yet been released, but police say the thefts occurred in January and February of this year. Time and date stamps on the surveillance video indicate the photos were taken on Jan. 29 and 30. Anyone with information about the identities of the women pictured in the surveillance photographs is asked to contact LPPD at 610-539-5901 or call the anonymous tip line at 610-539-3195. Patch will update this story as more information becomes available.

Towamencin Township Police are working on a joint investigation with the Pennsylvania State Police to identify a man authorities say is responsible for credit card fraud and other theft-related offenses in four Pennsylvania counties. Police said the man used cloned credit cards to purchase gift cards during the second week in January 2013. The man used the cloned cards at Walgreens stores in Flourtown, Drexel Hill and the Feasterville-Trevose area, police said. Police said the suspect also used a cloned credit card with the Philadelphia Parking Authority on M Street in Philadelphia on Jan. 10, 2013.
