Cash Reported Stolen from Collegeville Vehicle

Over $240 in cash was found in the the car, but the groceries were left intact in the trunk.

According to Lower Providence Police, a resident, along the 1000 block of Doris Drive in the Collegeville section of the township, reported that between $240 and $260 in cash was stolen from his vehicle. The incident was reported on Dec. 31, 2012. The resident told police that the previous night the vehicle was parked in his driveway, and was unsure if it was locked. The resident adds that his wife’s vehicle was parked along side his own, but was not disturbed. The resident said that both he and his wife were home all night, but heard nothing. By 9:45 a.m. the following morning, the resident discovered that his vehicle had been entered and ransacked, with the contents of its center compartment all over the front seats. The resident told …

Lower Providence Police Getting a Bit more ‘Social’

Lower Providence residents are liking that they can they can see local crime alerts, safety tips and directly interact with their local police department through its new Facebook page.

As of Dec. 27, the Lower Providence Police Department’s Facebook page has 390 likes, which is a happy surprise to some members of the department, as the page is just over a month old. “It’s very impressive and exciting,” Lower Providence Police detective Michael Jackson said. “It’s great because people want to help and it’s interesting content.” Lower Providence Police Department (LPPD) joined Facebook Nov. 23. It has since grown its page likes and fan interaction through the posting of hyper-local crime alerts and safety tips straight from the police department to residents’ fingertips.   Updating the Community Policing Philosophy Jackson, who joined the Lower Providence Police Department in 2001, is credited for bringing up the idea of …

LPPD and Eagleville Elementary Students Support Lt. Patty Simons Food Drive

Lower Providence Police Department invited the students to help collect non-perishable food items for the 17th-annual Lt. Patty Simons Law Enforcement Food Drive.

In the main hallway of Eagleville Elementary School, next to a Mickey Mouse themed Christmas Tree, stood three large, open-ended boxes, overflowing with non-perishable food. The school had decorated the boxes with festive holiday colors. The front of each box was affixed with a sign that explained the food was for the 17th-annual Lt. Patty Simons Law Enforcement Food Drive of the Salvation Army. Judi Schmitz, Eagleville Elementary School counselor, who was credited with spearheading the food drive effort at the school, couldn’t tell for certain how much food was collected, as no official count was made. “But, it’s heavy,” she said with a smile. Police: Over $22,000 Worth of Copper Cables Stolen in Audubon

The copper power cables were reported to have been stolen from the Sprint/Nextel parking lot.

Lower Providence Police report that five copper power cables, worth over $22,000, were stolen from the Sprint/Nextel parking lot, located at 901 Jefferson Ave. in Audubon. The incident was reported on Dec. 4 by a Sprint/Nextel switch technician.  The technician told police that the cables were stolen from portable generators left on the property. According to the police report, approximately two weeks ago, at the time of the report, two Olympian generators and three Generac generators were returned to the business and placed in its parking lot, with the power cables attached and in working order. Lower Providence Township Honors Det. Stephen Rowe

Lower Providence Police detective Stephen Rowe was recognized for his 25 years of service to the township.

Stephen L. Rowe, Lower Providence Police detective, was honored before the township supervisors for his 25 years of service in the Lower Providence Police Department. The township board of supervisors recognized his service during the Dec. 6 regular meeting, where his family, friends and fellow officers were in attendance. Standing with Rowe was Lower Providence police chief Francis Carroll and board of supervisors chairman Rick Brown. Prior to presenting Rowe with a statue, which had on it inscribed the township’s recognition of service, as well as a watch with the township seal on its face, Brown read aloud many of Rowe’s achievements and career highlights. Lower Providence Township Board of Supervisors will hold its regular meeting at 7:30 p.m. in the Township Building.

The Lower Providence Township Board of Supervisors will hold its regular business meeting, Dec. 6, starting at 7:30 p.m. in the Township Building. There are two presentations scheduled on the draft agenda, both recognizing township empoyees for their respective 25 years of service. Also of note, the final Lower Providence Township municipal meeting is scheduled to take place Dec. 20 at the Level Road School House Building.

Lower Providence Welcomes New Police Sergeant

William Hopkins was promoted to the rank of sergeant for the Lower Providence Township Police Department.

In a well-attended ceremony, William Hopkins was promoted to the rank of sergeant for the Lower Providence Township Police Department at the Nov. 15 township board of supervisors meeting. Board chairman Richard Brown read aloud Hopkins’ career highlights and achievements. Hopkins is a 1994 graduate of Cardinal Dougherty High School, where he was president of the student council his senior year. He received his bachelor of science degree from Bloomsburg University in 1998. In February 1999, he began his police career as an operations clerk with the Warminster Township Police Department, and simultaneously served as a part-time police officer with the Conshohocken Borough Police Department and the Ivyland Borough Police Department. Lower Providence Police Participate in ‘Operation Safe Stop’

Lower Providence Police officers followed Methacton School District buses to ensure the safety of boarding students and passing motorists.

Quick quiz – True or False:   All traffic must stop when approaching an intersection with a school bus with its red flashing lights and stop arm extended, whether the intersection is or is not marked with a stop sign?   If the answer (which can be found at the end of the article) is not immediate, PenDOT, along with the Montgomery County Department of Health (MCDH), state law enforcement agencies and school districts would like to change that. Police: Couples’ Fight on Pawlings Road Leads to Arrest

A boyfriend and girlfriend were found in bad shape after a reported spat on Pawlings Road.

Lower Providence Police responded to the 1500 block of Pawlings Road for an unknown type of disturbance on Oct. 7, according an affidavit of probable cause by Lower Providence Police Cpl. Walter Trimbur. Police arrived at approximately 2:30 a.m. to find Rahsaan Boynes, of Norristown, his girlfriend and another male by a tan Buick on the northbound lane of Pawlings Road. It was reported that Boynes and the girlfriend were both observed to have injuries consistent from a fight. Further signs of a physical altercation were observed on the ground and on the driver’s side door of the car. When interviewed by police, Boynes stated that he and his girlfriend were involved in an argument over a girl in a Phoenixville club or bar. Boynes told …
